NOTES FROM THE ORIGINAL UPLOADER:
This recording has been circulating since ' however this version is a new master cassette
transfer from my original analog master tape (Jun. 2011).
Great show from the second leg of the Crest of the Knave U.S. tour. This was Tull's first show
in San Diego in 8 years. I saw them in '80 on the "A" tour and they didn't come back again till
'88 which sucked because i would have loved to have seen the Broadsword tour. Recorded from the pit so there is a little crowd noise at the beginning but overall a nice recording.

FALLECE CLAUDE NOBS

JVELARDO
Tribute to Claude NobsIt is with great sadness that I read an email last night from the Montreux Jazz Festival staff, announcing the passing of our old friend Claude Nobs, founder of the MJF all those years ago in 1967.
He booked Jethro Tull to appear in 1970 and again in 2003. He was still actively involved in directing the Festival, even last July in the 46th year of the annual event, when he announced us on stage for our third show there and joined us the next day as a featured guest at a public workshop performance where he played blues harmonica with me and talked with energy and enthusiasm, as always, to the audience.
Claude had been unwell on a few occasions in the last years and was well aware of the passing years and need to look after himself. We would meet for dinner once in a while when we were at home in Montreux or visit his chalet for a quiet chat.
So, to hear of the accident on Christmas Eve which lead to his emergency surgery and subsequent coma, was a huge shock, to say the least. He took a tumble while on his cross-country skis near his home and was rushed to hospital by helicopter ambulance later that night. He remained in a coma for the next two weeks but we all imagined that he would somehow miraculously awake and bounce off back up to Caux, in the hills high above Montreux, with the boyish energy which he retained for all the time I have known him. But it was not to be.
The things I will always remember most about Claude were not the public persona, not the party-throwing generous host to all the good and great of the Rock, Jazz and pop fraternity who drifted in and out of his life. No, It is the boundless, naive optimism of the man, the boy, the child which infected all around him. His innate love for music, musicians, gadgets, trains, motorcycles and - well - just stuff was the simple charm which exuded from him.
We will miss him sorely and treasure the legacy which he has left for Montreux, all genres of music and the millions of concert-goers who have enjoyed the sounds echoing off the water from that beautiful little corner of Lac Léman, Switzerland.
But, as Claude would undoubtedly say, if we could pass him the microphone right now, “The show must go on.”
And it most certainly will.

Notes by the uploader:
I traded for this show several years ago. It sounds quite good for it's time and I suppose I'd give it an A- because the vocals and instrumentation are clear and fairly free of audience interference. Sound, as always, is subjective.
Technical info:
On my copy (and I imagine on all) Taxi Grab was cut and divided over two tracks. A small portion of the song is missing. From this split until 28 seconds into the cheers for more before the Guitar Solo just prior to Wind Up, the recording was very slow which put it out of sync with the rest of the recording. I increased the speed by 8% in this area to match the rest of the show in Audacity and spliced Taxi Grab so it is one track minus the several seconds of dead space it previously contained. Other than the changes I mentioned, I left the files as they were previously tracked on my CD copy I received. Please do not change my files and re-up unless you can make a marked difference. Enjoy the show.

"A PASSION PLAY, THE STORY OF IAN ANDERSON AND JETHRO TULL". NEW BOOK
"A PASSION PLAY, THE STORY OF IAN ANDERSON AND JETHRO TULL" BY BRIAN RABEY, NEW BOOK.
It will be published 20 March, 2013.
In the summer of 1972 Jethro Tull hit the dizzy heights of number one in the
Billboard album charts, and thus could lay claim to being the world's biggest
band at the time, with Thick As A Brick. They repeated the feat the next year
with A Passion Play and have sold over 60 million albums to date. Considering
just how big this group is (they are still going to this day, of course) there
is surprisingly little written about them - only a couple of books, which is
scandalous when you consider how many books have been written about
contemporaries such as Yes or Led Zeppelin. This book is a gem containing
interviews with band members such as Jeffrey Hammond-Hammond, John Evans, Martin
Barre and - of course Ian Anderson. In fact, this book may well contain the
longest interview Anderson has ever given. Biographer Brian Rabey and Anderson
really hit it off, possibly because Brian helped the latter recover his beloved
harmonica which was stolen backstage - something Anderson never forgot.
Biographer Brian Rabey was given access all areas and used this wisely. Via new
interviews he traces the history of a band which started life as the Blades,
briefly included Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi (his plastic finger tips
grafted on after an accident didn't lend themselves to playing Tull's subtle
music!), and went on to become Prog Rock royalty (or Elizabethan Rock as they
were sometimes dubbed!), but constantly re-invented itself with new personnel
and styles. Due to Brian's contact book there are also quotes from
contemporaries such as Greg Lake and John Wetton, which really helps to put
things in context. Another really appealing aspect of the book is that it looks
at the landscape of the times - for example, the flat Tull lived in during the
1960s would be regarded as unfit for human habitation today. A final nice touch
is that several band members have sent photographs from their personal
collections making this a unique book. AMAZON
